Pros & Cons of Hardwood Refinishing
First, sanding is a strong way to remove dents, scratches, and other damage by taking off some of the wood floor’s top layer. Sanding also allows the wood to be stained in a new color, with many stain options available.
The main downside of hardwood refinishing is that each time it takes off about 0.5 – 1.5 mm of the top layer. This means it can only be done a limited number of times, as specified by the hardwood type.
Sandless Wood Floor Refinishing (Buffing & Polishing)
Sandless Hardwood Refinishing is great for wood floors that look good but need a little refresh. This method uses a sanding machine for light scuffing and applies a special chemical to the surface. Small damages are fixed before a new finish coat is applied. This is also called hardwood buffing or polishing.
This way of refinishing is medium intense, quicker, and cheaper than sanding. It doesn’t remove much of the top hardwood layer, but you will still notice some dust. This method does not eliminate deep scratches or dents and doesn’t allow for floor staining.
